Atlantic Services for People With Special Needs
The Bell
Atlantic Center for Individuals with Disabilities has specially-trained
staff to help those with special needs or who may have difficulty using
the telephone, including those who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind,
deaf/blind, or vision, motion or speech impaired. Learn about special
services and assistive equipment, and get help in ordering new service or
understanding billing questions.
Bell Atlantic Special Needs
Programs include: Dial Operator Privileges; Directory Assistance
Exemption; Directory Assistance Call Completion ; Teletypewriter (TTY)
Discount; Dial Operator Privileges; Large Print or Braille Bill. Available
assistive equipment includes: TTY, amplified handsets, portable snap-on
amplifiers, loud ringers and signalers, weak speech handsets,
speakerphones, and large button phones.
To be approved for Special Needs Programs, eligible customers must complete an application and return it along with certification of disability from a licensed doctor or specialist. Bell Atlantic LifeLine Service offers a reduced rate on the basic monthly charge to income eligible households, as well as a discount on the cost of installing new service. If you're income eligible for any one of the following, you also are eligible for LifeLine: Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC), Food Stamps, Home Relief (HR), Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Veteran's Disability Pension (non-service related disabilities), or Veteran's Surviving Spouse Pension (non-service related disabilities).
